9-1-1, Explosion, Dead Chickens & Mountain Bikin'

That is a down and dirty explaination of our weekend.

For the second time since we have moved, we had to call 9-1-1 Friday night, from the X-5 no less! We finally got the X-5 back from the body shop on Thursday.

Last week was a hectic week at work, so Friday we were in the mood to have someone wait on us, so we went over to Clarkesville to the Copper Pot and let Zach take care of us. We enjoyed our meal and headed home. We were approaching the White Co. line and Clark saw a deer sitting, kneeled down, on the opposite side of the road by the white line. Clark turned around and we went back to check on her.

Poor lil thing was just sitting there, a bit scuffed up, but sitting up looking around. After looking at her, it was obvious she had been hit by a car but wasn't moving. Another person stopped after Clark dialed 9-1-1 and by then she had gotten up and was in the middle of the road, cars stopped in both directions. It was very sad, her front leg was broken and she tried to walk but fell in the road. They got her off the road into the ditch and we waited for the sherriff, me on the opposite side of the road, and of course the boo hoo monster got me, she was so pitiful.

She got up and managed to go up the ravine right as the sherriff approached. Clark told him what was up and he went up the hill. We went on our way, there was nothing we could have done at that point.

The next day was Valentine's day, and we had a very relaxing day and went over to the farm in the Nacoochee Valley and got some fresh eggs directly from the hen house and some fresh chickens as well. Grilled those up, had a nice dinner & we were going to share a bottle of champagne. As Clark was opening the wire cage, it exploded and champagne was everywhere. So our romantic evening was topped off with wiping down the walls and mopping the floor.

Sunday we were ready for a mountain bike road and met Len at Chicopee in Gainesville. On the way there, we counted 10 dead chickens on the highway, spreadout most of the way there!!

Chicopee was a good half way point for both of us. The trails system there was great, very flowing and marked with the difficulty rating. Some sections were pretty rooty but overall, one of the best singletracks I have been on.

Life is an adventure here in the mountains, that's for certain!!
