Outside my bubble

I told a few people recently that now that we are finally moved and settled, I was not leaving the tri-county area (White, Habersham and Hall). Saturday's rainy weather wasn't much good for any outside fun activities, so we decided to go down to Gainesville and change the address on our drivers' licenses.

That went okay, albeit we were amongst the great unwashed like any time you go to a driver's license center.

There's an REI down at the Mall of Georgia exit, so we headed a lil further south and went there for some bargains. On the way out of the store, the cabin management company called to say the satellite was out at Moose Hollow, so we left REI and PetSmart and headed back in the rain. Took the Hwy 129 exit off 985 so we could stop off at the office and get the billing info for that cluster that is Windstream/DISH Network, but got delayed on the way.

South of Cleveland, we were stopped at a red light when a Ford pickup truck comes up over the hill and runs the red light, smashing a Honda Civic who was coming from the west turning onto 129 north. That poor Honda got smashed and spun around and the pickup truck veered towards us and hit us!

Luckily, we were in the X-5, but the impact still busted the tie rod and deflated the front right tire. We were ok, the driver of the pickup was unresponsive and the lady in the Honda was pretty shaken up, her car was crushed and the air bag had gone off.

I called 911 and it wasn't even 5 minutes til the Sherriff's Department responded, as well as fire trucks and EMT's. I mean a lot of emergency help showed up and fast.

We were standing out in the rain, and Clark was like, who are we going to call for a ride?!? The X-5 wasn't driveable and had to loaded up onto a flatbed trailer!

The woman who caused the accident was taken in the ambulance, EMT said her sugar was out of control, must have been diabetic, as she had insulin with her. Woman in the Honda also went to the hospital.

We were very fortunate to just need a car ride home!! The police asked Clark if we needed a ride, but it just didn't seem like a good idea to ride in the back of the police car so we were very lucky that Lloyd & Lynn came to pick us up!!

The greyhounds were glad when we got home, their dinner was late. They didn't care what our excuse was, we were late!!

Sunday we hibernated and tried to re-set our White County karma.
